A Day at the Lake

It has been a busy few weeks with The Buttercup Boutique and with so many orders coming in I have been working around the clock, which means Sunday was a time for a well-deserved mini-vacay! So we gassed up the car and headed up to our favorite mountain destination, Grand Lake, for a day at the beach!

It is wonderful how much fun a 2 year old can have playing with a $5 sand set. We filled it up and dumped it out.

Made shapes in the sand

Watched the sailboats

threw pebbles in the water

And took a little break for a sandy picnic

Our beachy adventure was interrupted by a crazy rain/hail storm, but luckily we were able to take shelter under a pergola with "pitty fowers" according to Hill

Once the rain let up we went to this awesome place to enjoy some ice cream

Yum

It was a good day :)

Happy 4th of July!

I hope you all had  a wonderful day full of picnics, beer and fireworks! We played it low key here and just had some family and friends over and grilled.

I had all of these wonderful plans to do a lot of crafts with Hill this week to use as decorations, but too many orders to fill made for some sparse free time. We did manage to find time to squeeze in a little bit of rocket making for the centerpiece. We made these rockets using printed card stock and I let Hill color and put stickers on his before we rolled them in to a tube. It was easy, cheap and Hill had a blast making them!

I also managed to make time to run out and buy some inexpensive mason jars and I ordered these awesome 4th of July inspired paper straws from Dime Store Buddy on Etsy Instant American charm :)

The definite highlight of the day was when my hubby tried out his new grilling planks, which are basically pieces if cedar you put on your grill to cook meat or veggies. According to the packaging it was supposed to  "impart a delicately woodsy flavor" to your food.

We followed the directions exactly and instead of delicately cooking our chicken, the wood caught on fire creating more of a forest fire blackened chicken. Yummy...

So after drowning the smoldering remains in a bucket of water we cooked up some brats and got on with the party!

Although he may not look it in this picture Hill had a blast helping daddy grill and hanging out with his granny, grandpa and uncle Matt. He also ate tons of our awesome red and blue fruit salad.
He was also so tired he went to bed early, so I am going to go eat a piece of the best strawberry rhubarb pie in the world before I head back to the sewing room :)

 PS I know you're jealous :)
